Our Films, Our Europe is an innovative film making project run by SEET and supported by the European Parliament. Teams of S3-S6 pupils from all secondary schools in Scotland are invited to take part in the project which encourages European languages, international discussions and creative film making.
In the initial stages of Our Europe, teams are asked to come up with an idea for a film, based on how being a European citizen affects them as young people. Then, with our help teams are encouraged to link up with partners in schools abroad to swap ideas an opinions on the subject. Then, once the idea is finalised, teams submit their plan in storyboard with an audio/video clip explaining the idea. As a rule films must include scenes using at least one European language other than English. Guidance and resources are all available on the project website.
After all the entries are in, 3 regional film making workshops take place. Teams will convene at their closest workshop to spend the day shooting and editing their films. Throughout the day they will have media and film making professionals on hand to help them out and provide top tips. All the equipment is provided along with training on how to use it, so no film making experience is necessary.
The final phase of the project is an exclusive premiere and awards ceremony at the Scottish Parliament, where all the teams will watch their films together for the first time. After the screening there will be a short awards ceremony where pupils can receive recognition for their heard work, achievements and progress throughout the competition.
Our Films, Our Europe has been designed to offer young people the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of Europe whilst gaining a range of transferable skills through the creative process.
