Euroquiz Final 2022

Congratulations to pupils from George Watson’s College who won the Scottish European Educational Trust’s National Euroquiz Final 2022, which took place at the Scottish Parliament yesterday. After a nail-biting final buzzer round, pupils from Troqueer Primary School (Dumfries & Galloway) took 2nd place. Pupils from Kemnay Primary School in Aberdeenshire followed closely behind in 3rd place. Over 2,000 pupils from more than 400 schools took part in the Euroquiz project in 2022, which really highlights the achievements of all schools who made it to the final.

After a 2-year hiatus from Euroquiz taking place in-person, this year's Euroquiz Final at the Scottish Parliament was particularly special. SEET was delighted to be able to offer finalist pupils the full Euroquiz experience once again, including a tour of the Parliament, and the chance to sit in the seats of the MSPs in the Debating Chamber. The finalists were put through their paces by quizmaster Deputy Presiding Officer Annabelle Ewing MSP and Mark Pentleton from Coffee Break Languages. Pupils were cheered on by parents and peers in the public gallery, and even remotely, with many schools tuning in to watch the live broadcast of the event.

Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills shared a message for the pupils:

“Euroquiz is a fantastic project for our young people to learn about the history and culture of our European neighbours. It offers the opportunity to broaden cultural horizons, improve aptitude in other languages and develop valuable team working skills.

All the best of luck to the teams taking part in this year’s National Final which I am pleased to see is taking place once again at the Scottish Parliament.”

Well done to all pupils from the 400+ schools who took part in the Euroquiz Heats this year, and congratulations to our finalists.
